Dispute in LMC over renaming Chowk intersection already dedicated to Lalji Tandon

LUCKNOW, Oct. 31 -- A dispute has surfaced in the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) after corporator Mukesh Singh Chauhan objected to the executive committee's proposal to rename the Chowk intersection, already named after former governor late Lalji Tandon, in honour of noted litterateur the late Amritlal Nagar.
In a letter dated October 30, 2025, addressed to mayor Sushma Kharakwal, Chauhan alleged that the decision to rename the intersection disregards an earlier resolution and disrespects the CM, in whose presence the site was inaugurated.
Chauhan said the executive committee meeting held on July 24, 2020, unanimously approved Resolution No 209 to name the Chowk intersection after Lalji Tandon, who had served as MLA, MP, urban development minister, and governor of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
The naming ceremony took place on April 12, 2021, in the presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
However, in its meeting on October 24, 2025, the executive committee unanimously passed Resolution No 258, proposing to rename the same intersection after Amritlal Nagar.
Questioning the move, Chauhan said renaming a site already inaugurated in the CM's presence would be inappropriate and could be viewed as an insult.
He urged the mayor to reconsider the proposal and suggested naming another intersection in honour of Amritlal Nagar, along with installing his statue, to duly recognise both personalities without causing controversy....
