LUCKNOW, Aug. 3 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court will hear the case on Monday regarding deaths and injuries caused by banned nylon kite string (Chinese manjha) in Uttar Pradesh, including the capital, Lucknow. The case is listed for hearing before the division bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Manjeev Shukla. Earlier, the court directed the Centre to submit its reply on the issue of stopping the online availability of the banned kite string. The court had also given time to the petitioner to present his response on the reply submitted by the state government in the matter. The public interest litigation (PIL) petition was filed by a local advocate ML Yadav in 2018. The petitioner had made a request to impose a strict ban on the deadly kite string. He cited various incidents caused by it across Uttar Pradesh. He also filed newspaper reports of these incidents. In May, the high court took a tough stand on the deaths and injuries of people in the state, including the state capital, due to dangerous nylon string and had ordered the additional chief secretaries/principal secretaries of the state's home and tax departments, the DGP, and the heads of the industrial development and environment departments to appear through video conferencing on July 13. The court asked these officers what steps they had taken and what procedure they had decided to ban the production, sale and use of the banned kite string as per the earlier order.
