CRPF ex-DIG, two others sentenced to 3-year RI
LUCKNOW, March 29 -- A special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Lucknow on Saturday convicted a former deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and two others in a long-pending constable recruitment bribery case. The court sentenced them to three years of rigorous imprisonment, according to an official statement.
The court held the then DIG, Vinod Kumar Sharma, along with CRPF personnel Satyavir Singh and Tirath Pal Chaturvedi, guilty of criminal conspiracy and corruption. The convicts were also fined a total of Rs.1.2 lakh.
According to the CBI, the incident dates back to February 23, 2009, when a case was registered against Sharma and others based on sourced information. The investigation revealed that Sharma conspired with private middlemen to facilitate illegal recruitment into the CRPF.
