LUCKNOW, Feb. 15 -- The Congress party on Saturday sought Rs.50 lakh compensation and a government job for the family of a city resident who died after being fatally injured by a nylon-coated kite string, and asked the state government to move beyond what it termed "symbolic action" against the banned kite string. Addressing a press conference at the party office, Ajay Rai, state Congress president, said Mohammad Shoaib died on February 4 after a nylon-coated kite string allegedly slit his throat. He said the incident reflected failure in enforcing the ban on "Chinese manjha". "Despite repeated claims, accidents caused by Chinese manjha are continuing. A family has lost its sole breadwinner. The government must immediately provide Rs.50 lakh as financial assistance and a government job to a member of the bereaved family," Rai said. Rai called for a complete ban on the import and sale of Chinese manjha and sought strict action at the source to prevent further incidents. htc...
