Cong's OBC wing protests for caste census
LUCKNOW, Oct. 6 -- Police detained many UP Congress leaders and workers as the party's OBC wing took out a march on Monday from the party headquarters and moved towards Jan Bhavan demanding a separate column for OBCs in the 2027 Census questionnaire and provision of a drop-down list of castes to enumerators.
"We have been consistently demanding a nationwide 'scientific caste census' modelled on the caste census conducted in Telangana," said UP Congress's OBC wing president Manoj Yadav.
"In all, 132 partymen were detained, but we will continue to raise our demands," Yadav added. ACP Hazratganj Rajneesh Verma said, "The protestors were detained near the Waqf Board office and were taken to the Eco Garden."
When the protestors came near the main road where police had blocked passage with barricades, there was a confrontation with cops....
