BIDAR, March 9 -- A Class 9 student at a school in Karnataka's Ballari went on a frenzied rampage with a metal rod inside the school's hostel, killing a fellow boarder and injuring seven others, including the hostel warden, before fleeing the spot, police said on Sunday. Ballari SP Suman D Pannaker said the boy, studying at Gurukul International School, struck several students in the hostel on Saturday night, causing fatal injuries to one of them. "He also assaulted the hostel warden during the incident. After carrying out the attack, the accused student fled from the spot. The police have launched a search operation for the absconding student," the SP said. Police said a case of murder and assault under relevant sections of BNS has been registered based on a complaint from the deceased student's family. An investigation has been launched to examine the role of the school management, police said. Govinda, chairman of the school, expressed shock at the incident. He said the attacker hailed from Gonalu village in Ballari district, from a family of agricultural labourers.
