Civic issues continue to hit people; mayor tells officials to address them within 2 days
LUCKNOW, Aug. 4 -- Residents in many areas of Lucknow continue to grapple with clogged sewers, erratic drinking water supply and poor sanitation even during the ongoing monsoon season despite repeated inspections and instructions from senior civic officials.
The issue came to the fore again on Monday when mayor Sushma Kharkwal conducted a surprise inspection in Indira Nagar's Sector-C after residents flagged multiple civic problems. She interacted with residents and reviewed complaints related to sewerage, drinking water supply and sanitation.
The mayor directed officials to resolve all identified sewerage and drinking water issues within two days and submit a compliance report. She warned that negligence in providing basic civic amenities would not be tolerated and instructed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of public complaints.
Residents told the mayor that overflowing sewers, poor water supply and inadequate maintenance have persisted despite repeated complaints. The latest inspection once again highlighted the disconnect between field inspections and execution on the ground.
The mayor expressed dissatisfaction over the poor upkeep of parks and cleanliness. She ordered regular garbage collection, maintenance of green spaces and systematic monitoring to improve civic services. htc...
