LUCKNOW, Sept. 30 -- In a coordinated move to decongest the state capital, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and Public Works Department (PWD) plan to remodel and widen roads at more than two dozen major intersections.
If executed on schedule, officials said, the combined push could ease traffic across at least 28 major junctions of the city, benefitting commuters. Already the PWD has completed its part of the work where road widening and other diversions have been placed by them for smooth traffic flow, said PWD executive engineer Satendra Nath.
The LMC has finalised a detailed project report (DPR) to remodel four critical intersections under the Chief Minister Nagarodaya Yojana (CM-VNY). These include Raja Bijli Pasi Kila intersection, Chhannilal Square, National PG College crossing at Rana Pratap Marg, and La Martiniere Girls' College intersection. Officials confirmed that the proposal will soon be presented to the state government for clearance.
While the LMC is taking up four points, the LDA is leading a bigger push with remodelling and widening projects at 10 busy locations. Among them, the AKTU Jankipuram intersection and Atal tri-junction in Jankipuram have been completed. Work is progressing at the Medical College intersection, Teele Wali Masjid Crossing, Hahnemann intersection, Lokbandhu intersection, Daliganj tri-junction, and IIM Green Corridor tri-junction. In addition, widening is underway on the Nimbu Park Road-Charak intersection stretch and the connecting road to Ghantaghar parking via the Museum block Green Corridor.
Prathamesh Kumar, vice-chairman, LDA, said, "We are focusing on both present traffic congestion and the future traffic load of the city. All remodelling and widening works taken up by LDA will be completed by January 2026," he said.
The PWD has also completed extensive road widening and diversion projects at busy points where traffic snarls were acute. The department has carried out widening or diversion works at Ahimamau, Polytechnic intersection, Kamta Tiraha, Kisan Path cut, Hazratganj junction, Haiderganj junction, Utretiya junction, Telibagh junction, Niralanagar No. 8 intersection, Para junction, Shakuntala University junction and Hussariya junction."We created diversions and widened key stretches to ensure traffic dispersal at peak hours," said Satendra Nath, executive engineer, PWD. "The objective is to reduce pressure on junctions and provide smoother movement to commuters."
Nazmi said that the joint efforts by LMC, LDA and PWD will mark the most extensive remodelling exercise in recent years....
