LUCKNOW, Sept. 5 -- The ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), Lucknow, celebrated its 42nd Foundation Day on Thursday. The institute, which began as the Central Mango Research Station, honoured its former director the late Padma Shri Dr Krishna Lal Chadha, by unveiling his bust. Prof SK Singh, deputy director general (horticultural science), ICAR, who led the celebrations called Dr Chadha a "pioneer of Indian horticulture" and urged researchers to focus on multi-commodity clusters, zero-waste horticulture and nutrient-efficient systems. Highlighting CISH's achievements, Prof Singh lauded its work in varietal development, mango export protocols via sea route, digital orchard health cards and smart orchard technologies. Dr VB Patel, ADG (fruits & plantation crops), stressed breeding climate-resilient varieties and promoting smart orchard practices.
