Chandigarh, June 14 -- Two unidentified men shot dead the 45-year-old cashier of a chemist shop on Saturday in Chandigarh's Sector 11 market and fled the scene with a third accomplice, police said. According to police, the deceased, Janki Das, who hails from Rohru in Himachal Pradesh was shot 13 times at a close range by two masked men with a sophisticated automatic 9mm pistol, while he was working at Shri Kumar Medical Hall 1 SCO 14. The two accused had come to the shop with their faces hidden and stood in the shop for half a minute and loaded their weapons right there but only one of them shot at the victim, police said. A third accused was waiting on the main road with his motorcycle. While a police naka was deployed right in front of them, they took a U-turn as police officers said they escaped towards Mullanpur side. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sumer Pratap Singh said, "We are probing the possible motive behind the shooting and are checking CCTV footage to identify the accused and how they escaped." The victim was rushed to PGIMER where he was declared brought dead, police said, adding that his body has been shifted to the mortuary and a murder case has been registered at the Sector 11 police station. The area was cordoned off and teams of Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) were present at the spot.
