Central University of Kashmir sets up probe in harassment case
Srinagar, Oct. 3 -- The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) has taken an administrative action against the head of its chemistry department and attached him with the dean, academic affairs at the main campus and set up an internal inquiry committee following student protests over allegations of sexual harassment, officials said on Friday.
Protests erupted on Thursday at the university's Nunar campus in Ganderbal district after a female student of the department accused its HoD Chinnappan Baskar of using vulgar language and behaving inappropriately.
CUK registrar Nisar Ahmad Mir said, "Though a formal written complaint from the student is still pending, the vice-chancellor has directed the immediate attachment of the teacher upon learning of the protests."
A university spokesperson confirmed police were informed about the situation.
