Celebratory firing claims life of man
Jhansi, May 10 -- A 45-year-old man was accidentally shot dead during celebratory firing at a marriage function in village Dhimroni under Baragaon police station limits, in Jhansi district, on Friday night.
According to police, the wedding procession had returned to the village with the newlywed couple from Rajapur village in Kanpur Dehat. Family members and villagers were celebrating the bride's arrival, with loud music and traditional rituals taking place outside the groom's house.
Amid the celebrations, the groom's father Gopal Yadav allegedly fired shots in the air as part of the festivities. Eyewitnesses said the firearm appeared to malfunction, prompting him to inspect it. During the process, the gun suddenly went off and the bullet struck Yadav's cousin, Mahesh Yadav, in the chest from close range.
Mahesh was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
After receiving information, police reached the spot, collected evidence and began an investigation. The accused fled the scene following the incident.
Station officer Baliraj Sahi of Baragaon police station said that a case has been registered against the accused under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25/27/9 of the Arms Act. Police teams are conducting raids to arrest the absconding accused.
