Chandigarh, Oct. 30 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a disproportionate assets (DA) case against suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, following a preliminary inquiry into his financial holdings. Bhullar, who was DIG Ropar Range, was arrested on October 16 along with a person identified as Kirshanu. The CBI had laid a trap after a complainant, Akash Batta, alleged that Bhullar had demanded a bribe of Rs.5 lakh. The money was handed over to a middleman who was caught while accepting the bribe on behalf of Bhullar. While Krishanu was arrested from Chandigarh, Bhullar was arrested from his office in Mohali few minutes later. During the subsequent search at Bhullar's residence in Chandigarh, the agency found Rs.7.36 crore cash, gold and silver jewellery worth Rs.2.3 crore, 26 high-end luxury branded watches and documents of several properties.
