Caste survey begins amid tech glitches
Bengaluru, Sept. 23 -- Karnataka on Monday began its contentious socio-economic and educational survey across nearly the entire state. However, the process has been postponed by two to three days in Bengaluru, due to technical delays, officials said.
The exercise is expected to cover about 70 million people across 20 million households by October 7. CM Siddaramaiah has described the survey as vital to public policy.
"The survey will be conducted in the state by the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission from September 22 to October 7. Around 1.75 lakh teachers will be deployed for this task. They will be provided an honorarium of up to Rs. 20,000. The cost of teacher honorariums will be around Rs.325 crore," he said.
Officials said that data collection would be carried out "scientifically" through a 60-question household questionnaire administered by government school teachers working as enumerators....
