BKTC orders probe into Badrinath donation row
Dehradun, July 4 -- Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has ordered an inquiry into allegations of misappropriation of offerings and donations at Shri Badrinath Dham after the issue surfaced on social media, BKTC chairman Hemant Dwivedi said on Friday amid the Ram temple donation row.
Dwivedi said the temple committee has taken cognisance of the allegations and decided to constitute an inquiry committee to conduct an impartial and fact-based investigation. Explanations have also been sought from the employees concerned, he said.
"Once the investigation is complete, if any employee is found guilty, strict action will be taken against them in accordance with the rules," he said.
The BKTC chairman also clarified that the employee being described on social media as his "personal secretary" is not attached to him in that capacity.
"The employee concerned is a regular BKTC employee and has earlier worked as personal assistant to three former chairmen of the temple committee. If the allegations against him are found to be true, strict action will be taken against the guilty," Dwivedi said.
BKTC chief executive officer (CEO) Sohan Singh Rangar said that following the allegations, CCTV footage from the Badrinath Temple premises was reviewed.
"Although the available footage does not provide the necessary clarity, the matter has been brought to the notice of the BKTC chairman considering its seriousness and sensitivity," Rangar said.
He said that, on the chairman's directions, explanations are being sought from the employees concerned and a proposal has been submitted to constitute an internal inquiry committee to carry out a detailed and fair investigation.
Rangar said that if the inquiry establishes any irregularity or misconduct, legal and departmental action will be initiated against those found guilty under the provisions of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee Act, 1939, and the applicable employee conduct rules.
He appealed to the public to avoid speculation, saying the matter concerns Shri Badrinath Dham, one of Uttarakhand's most revered pilgrimage sites and a place of faith for millions of devotees.
"Until the allegations are verified through a formal inquiry, people should refrain from making unverified or misleading allegations and counter-allegations," he said.
Earlier in the day, a Hindu right-wing organisation, Bhairav Sena Sangathan, submitted a memorandum to the BKTC CEO, demanding immediate administrative action and registration of an FIR over alleged financial irregularities involving a personal assistant to the BKTC chairman.
In the memorandum, the outfit warned of a public protest if strict action was not initiated in the matter.
