Gorakhpur/Lucknow, Sept. 19 -- The BJP has stepped up its organisational preparations in eastern Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 assembly elections with national general secretary and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Vinod Tawde holding a series of meetings with party functionaries, elected representatives, former public representatives and media teams during his two-day visit to Gorakhpur. The meetings are significant because Gorakhpur is a politically important region and chief minister Yogi Adityanath's electoral base. On Friday, Tawde, accompanied by state co-in-charge Jagdish Patel, held separate interactions at the party's regional office with organisational office-bearers, district presidents and general secretaries, MPs, MLAs and MLCs, former elected representatives, senior workers and the party's media and social media teams. The exercise covered the BJP's organisational network across 62 assembly constituencies in the Gorakhpur region. The focus was on strengthening the organisation down to the booth level, improving coordination between elected representatives and party workers and obtaining grassroots feedback on local issues and public sentiment. Tawde stressed that the party's organisational strength depended on its workers and a strong booth-level structure. He told functionaries that preparations for the 2027 polls should not be restricted to the period immediately preceding the election, but should involve continuous public outreach and regular interaction with voters. At the meeting with MPs, MLAs and MLCs, he emphasised closer coordination between the organisation and elected representatives, saying feedback on local problems and public concerns should reach the party organisation. He also stressed the need for MPs and legislators to maintain regular contact with organisational functionaries in their respective areas. A separate interaction was held with the media and social media teams, where Tawde stressed timely and fact-based communication of the party's programmes and campaigns. He also called for better coordination between regional and district-level digital teams. Tawde subsequently met former MPs, MLAs, mayors and other former elected representatives, seeking to draw upon their organisational and grassroots experience. Senior party workers and prominent local personalities were also part of the outreach. Those attending the meetings included UP ministers AK Sharma, Sanjay Nishad and Daya Shankar Singh, Rajya Sabha MPs Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, Neeraj Shekhar and Sangeeta Yadav, and Lok Sabha MPs Ravi Kishan Shukla, Jagdambika Pal, Shashank Mani Tripathi and Vijay Dubey, besides former MP Ramapati Ram Tripathi. State BJP vice-presidents and MLCs Dharmendra Singh and Ramesh Singh were also present. The party said the emphasis in Gorakhpur would be on booth-level activity, worker coordination, public contact and strengthening communication across the region. Tawde held a closed-door meeting with party's Rajya Sabha MP Dr Radha Mohan Das Agarwal at the latter's residence in Daudpur late on Thursday night. Dr Agarwal confirmed the meeting in a post on his X account. According to the post, the two leaders held detailed discussions on the current political situation in Uttar Pradesh.
