Lucknow, Aug. 4 -- BJP MLC Vijay Bahadur Pathak on Monday urged the state government to introduce " Revenue Jan Adalats" on the lines of Lok Adalats to ensure time-bound disposal of long-pending cases in revenue courts, saying delays were causing hardship to farmers, the poor and other litigants besides contributing to law and order problems. Raising the issue under the Rule 115 in the Upper House, Pathak said the state government under CM Yogi Aditanath had significantly strengthened revenue administration. He said initiatives such as the distribution of 'gharounis' and efforts to resolve land disputes by fixing accountability of officials had produced encouraging results. However, he said a large number of cases relating to mutation, partition, demarcation, possession, eviction and encroachments on public land continued to remain pending in revenue courts. "Despite directions for their time-bound disposal, progress remained slow because sub-divisional magistrates, tehsildars and naib tehsildars were overburdened with administrative responsibilities in addition to judicial work," he said. Pathak said the prolonged pendency was forcing farmers and poor litigants to make repeated visits to government offices and, in several cases, unresolved land disputes had escalated into law and order issues. He urged the government to prepare a concrete action plan to organise Revenue Jan Adalats across the state to clear the backlog through special drives and provide faster justice in revenue matters. htc...
