LUCKNOW, Sept. 23 -- Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh has urged chief minister Yogi Adityanath to introduce a pension scheme for senior journalists and the families of journalists who die during service. In a reminder letter to the chief minister, Singh sought a regular monthly pension for eligible journalists aged above 60 and a family pension of at least Rs.25,000 per month for widows or eligible dependents of journalists who die prematurely while in service. He proposed the assistance for at least five years, extendable up to 10 years depending on need. Singh also sought a verified district and age-wise record of deceased journalists, particularly those below 50, and a simple, transparent online system for processing pension applications. He thanked the chief minister for financial assistance to advocates undergoing treatment for serious illnesses and for strengthening the Journalist Welfare Fund. Singh said he met the families of deceased Lucknow journalists Vidhi Singh, Mohammad Irfan and Neeraj Srivastava and provided Rs.1 lakh each to them through CSR support for their children's education.
