Meerut, Sept. 11 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suffered a political setback in Meerut ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections as Kapil Mukhia Gurjar, the Meerut block pramukh and a long-time party member, resigned from the BJP's primary membership on Thursday. He cited alleged neglect of farmers, rising unemployment, lack of jobs and the sidelining of grassroots workers. Kapil announced his decision at a press conference at a hotel in Meerut, saying that repeated attempts to draw the attention of senior party leaders to issues affecting people in his area had failed to produce any solution.
