BHU wraps up anti-ragging week with firm warning
VARANASI, Aug. 21 -- Officials at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) reaffirmed the institution's commitment to maintaining a ragging-free campus during the closing ceremony of Anti-Ragging Week 2026 at the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) on Thursday. Prof Lalit Mohan Agrawal, chairman of the BHU Anti-Ragging Squad, warned that ragging has no place at the university and reminded students that offenders face FIRs under UGC regulations. IMS-BHU director Prof SN Sankhwar emphasised a zero-tolerance approach, stating that while incidents are rare, every reported case will be investigated and met with strict action.
Guest of honour Prof Ranjan Kumar Singh, dean of students, alongside dean of modern medicine Prof Sanjay Gupta, urged students to foster a campus culture rooted in discipline, respect and mutual support. The ceremony featured a review of activities conducted from August 12 to 18, including awareness workshops and student competitions. In the elocution competition, Apoorv Kumar Pandia (IMS) secured first place, followed by Adarsh Kumar (faculty of agriculture) and Aaradhya Singh (MMV). Team MBBS took top honors in the Skit Competition for their performance promoting inclusivity and friendship....
