Lucknow, April 25 -- A growing bed shortage in the emergency wing of Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) is forcing patients to wait for hours-and in some cases days-for admission, raising concerns over capacity at one of the city's key government hospitals. In the crowded triage area, where patients are stabilised before being shifted to wards, nearly 20 patients were at one point awaiting beds despite receiving initial treatment, hospital sources said. "We do not turn patients away. Due to heavy footfall, it may take a few hours to shift them to wards. Till then, they are managed in triage," said APRO Nimisha Sonkar. Patients and attendants, however, describe long delays. Neeta from Bharwara has been waiting four days for admission to the gastroenterology ward. Others, including patients with respiratory and intestinal complications, have also remained in triage for over 24 hours. With around 1,100 beds and emergency footfall crossing 450 daily, the institute is under visible strain. Authorities said efforts are on to streamline admissions, but delays persist. htc...
