Jhansi, July 24 -- A cross-country motorcycle journey aimed at spreading awareness against drug abuse came to an abrupt halt in Jhansi after a 43-year-old biker from Kerala suffered serious injuries in a road accident. A timely intervention by an Indian Army personnel ensured immediate medical assistance, and she was rushed to the hospital. The biker, Shyni CV, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram, was travelling from Katni in Madhya Pradesh towards Gwalior on Wednesday evening when a speeding oil tanker allegedly hit her motorcycle on the Jhansi-Gwalior highway. The impact threw her onto the road, leaving her with multiple fractures. According to Army sources, Shyni managed to contact members of her biking network soon after the accident. An SOS message reached army personnel, who alerted the 614 AD Brigade Signal Company. A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the site. Army personnel shifted the injured biker to Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, coordinated with local police and secured her belongings, including valuables, until her family could arrive. Shyni's son, Lenin Joshua, 25, a Delhi University student, said his mother has been on a nationwide awareness campaign since August 22, 2025, carrying the message "India Against Drugs." Through the journey, she has been travelling across states, capitals and major cities, engaging with young people and encouraging them to stay away from substance abuse. "Passersby informed us about the accident through a video call made from my mother's phone. She also contacted some friends from the biking community, who reached out to Army officials. Their prompt response made a huge difference. I am deeply thankful to the Indian Army for helping my mother and supporting us during a difficult time," Joshua said. Considering the severity of her injuries, she was shifted to a hospital in the national capital on Thursday for specialised treatment. Despite the accident, the family remains optimistic about her return to the road. Shyni had previously undertaken endurance rides for social causes. In 2023, Shyni and her son completed a 39-day motorcycle expedition from Komik in Himachal Pradesh's Spiti Valley to Kuttanad in Kerala, using the journey to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
