India, Nov. 1 -- Actor Anupriya Goenka says her connection to her roots has shaped her personality in different ways. The actor, known for Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) and Padmaavat (2018), views her Kanpur upbringing as the foundation of both her personal identity and her craft. "I'm a Rajasthani who was born in Kanpur, grew up in Delhi, and have now lived a major part of my life in Mumbai," she says. "When we say roots, it's not just the city, but also the root of the family. It transcends in many different ways in one's life. In my case, it's not from the way I was brought up in Delhi or even from my time in Bombay. A lot of it has to do with my family in Kanpur." Goenka says, "My identity is based in UP and Kanpur-from the lehja with which I speak to my baat karne ka tareeka, salika, and rehen ka tareeka; everything to date comes from that lifestyle more than anything else. There was a maid who was with us from before I was born, and she stayed with us for about 26-27 years. She was almost like a second mother and had a big impact on me. So, there was a whole continuation of that lifestyle." The actor was last seen in Bombay Stories and Indian Institute of Zombies. "Thankfully, I come from a family where women were always treated as equals. My dadi believed that enterprising housewives should extend their help in the factories," she says. The actor adds, "My father had been adopted into the Goenka family, and I have always held the mantle of my family since I was a child. I come from a Marwadi setup, and nobody ever questioned me about my acting career. They were always very liberal, encouraging, and proud."...
