Amid donation row, Ram temple trust remains tight-lipped
Lucknow, June 12 -- Amid a stoic silence over allegations of misappropriation of donations at the Ram temple, former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's statement on the controversy and Nripendra Misra's unscheduled visit to Ayodhya have raised the pitch.
Over two years after the Ram temple's grand opening on January 22, 2024, the alleged cash controversy has raised questions about how the cash, donated by the faithful who travelled from across the country to Ayodhya, was handled.
Misra, chairman of the Ram Mandir Construction Committee, will be back in Ayodhya on June 13 to seek further clarification from members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on the controversy.
Misra landed in Ayodhya late on Monday and left the next day after a marathon meeting with Trust members.
For his part, former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh claimed that he knows a lot about the alleged misuse of donations but said he was not in a position to reveal the truth at present.
Speaking to reporters at his residence in Vishnoharpur on Wednesday, Singh said, "I am a very weak person. If I speak the truth, I will get into trouble because they are very powerful people. I do not have the courage to speak the truth right now. If the time comes, I will speak." He did not specify whom he referred to as "they".
The cash-counting staff of Ram Mandir is under the scanner after the controversy came to light. Cash is counted under CCTV surveillance at Ram Mandir. According to sources, CCTV camera recordings are being scanned.
Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai on Sunday said that the Trust conducts an internal audit from time to time, adding that the same exercise is currently underway and nothing notable has come to light so far....
