70% turnout in Central Bar Assn election
Varanasi, Jan. 4 -- Voting for the annual elections of the Central Bar Association was held on Saturday amid tight security. A voter turnout of 70.02 per cent was recorded. Counting of votes will take place on Sunday.
The elections were conducted by the 2026 Elders Committee under the supervision of its chairman, advocate Radhe Lal Srivastava. A total of 7,636 advocates were registered as voters. Polling began at 10 am and ended at 4 pm. Voting was slow in the morning but picked up later in the day. By the end of polling, 5,347 voters had cast their ballots. Seventeen tables were set up for issuing ballot papers, while 95 booths were arranged for voting. Around 60 assistant election officers were deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the process. Vote counting will start at 8 am on Sunday and will continue until results are declared.
Radhe Lal Srivastava said that 77 candidates are contesting for 20 posts this year. He added that strict security arrangements were made at the court premises. However, due to a large number of supporters present inside the premises, many advocate-voters faced difficulty in reaching the polling booths.
