JHANSI, Sept. 3 -- Floodwaters inundated parts of Chitrakoot on Wednesday as the Mandakini river rose 3-4 metres above the danger mark, damaging 650 homes partially and forcing hundreds of people to evacuate. With roads submerged and residents stranded in several areas, police and disaster-response teams mounted rescue operations across the district. Senior officials, including ADG Prayagraj zone Jyoti Narayan, DIG range Rajesh S, divisional commissioner Ajit Singh and district magistrate Pulkit Garg, inspected affected areas. DM Garg said 650 houses were partially damaged and 50 completely damaged, while 50 hectares of farmland remained submerged. "The survey of farm damage has been done and compensation will be released soon. We are also trying to rebuild completely damaged homes under the CM Awas Yojana," Garg said. He said 750 people had been rescued and shifted to shelters. Heavy police deployment, along with teams of NDRF, SDRF and PAC, continued rescue operations across urban and rural areas. Ramghat, Turraua, Bhamor, Ghabariya and Bahadur Ganj were among the worst-affected areas. Chitrakoot recorded more than 700 mm of rainfall in August, against a five-year average of 485 mm. DIG Rajesh said an alert had been issued for further heavy rain over the next few days. The administration also opened floodgates of nearby dams. Meanwhile, residents stranded in flood-hit Turraua complained of inadequate relief and said they were running short of food and essential supplies....
