6 killed as sleeper bus rams into trailer in Raj
Balotra, Feb. 28 -- At least six people died and several others were injured after a sleeper bus collided with a trailer on National Highway-25 near Sarwadi village in Balotra district of Rajasthan on Friday, police said.
The incident occurred after the bus, which was allegedly speeding, switched lanes to overtake two vehicles and hit the trailer, which was approaching from the opposite side, said Balotra superintendent of police (SP) Ramesh. The bus was travelling from Jodhpur to Sanchore near Gujarat border, and trailer was travelling to Jodhpur, he added.
"Six persons have died in collision between a bus and a trailer near Sarwadi village," Balotra additional superintendent of police Harphool Singh said.
Rescue operation began with the help of locals and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, officials said, adding that some of the injured were referred to better facilities due to their critical condition.
Police have registered a case and have started questioning the trailer driver.
Preliminary probe suggests that overspeeding and negligence may have contributed to the accident, the SP said, adding that the exact cause was under investigation....
