Jhansi, March 11 -- Amid the soaring crisis of LPG cylinders owing to the ongoing war in West Asia, seven individuals were arrested early Wednesday morning in Jhansi for stealing the cylinders. Police recovered all 524 stolen LPG cylinders, valued at over Rs.17 lakh, that were taken on Friday. A significant amount of cash was also seized from the accused. During a patrol around 2:30 am, police arrested four individuals named Jawed, 26, Amir, 35, Hritik, 24, and Sumit, 22. The arrests followed a brief encounter near a gas godown on Gwalior Road, and a handgun and some cartridges were also recovered, said SSP Jhansi BBGTS Murthy during a press conference During interrogation, it was revealed that Hritik and Jawed had planned the theft to pay an old debt owed to the truck owner. They had brokered a deal with Aamir, who works at the Shiv Gas Agency in Samthar, to sell the cylinders for Rs.13 lakh. Later that morning, police arrested Shubhankar Parihar, 28, the owner of Shiv Gas Agency, along with Abhishek, 25, and Surendra, 23, from Samthar. All the cylinders were recovered, though 135 were empty, having already been sold. Police recovered an additional Rs.83,820 obtained from the sale of the cylinders. Separately, Rs.11.10 lakh was recovered from Jawed's house, a sum they received after delivering the cylinders. Police stated that Jawed and Hritik, former drivers for the truck fleet owner Neeraj Agarwal, drove the truck-loaded with 524 filled LPG cylinders-away early Friday morning....
