30-year-old man sentenced to life for killing mother in Agra
AGRA, May 20 -- A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his mother by smashing her head with a heavy object in a village under the Jagner police station limits in Agra on March 1, 2023.
The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by the accused's father.
Additional Sessions Judge (Court No. 01) in Agra, Pushkar Upadhyaya, on Monday sentenced the accused, Shivam alias Shanky (30), to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.50,000. The court also found him guilty under the Arms Act, awarding him two years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.5,000.
The police filed a charge sheet in the murder case on November 20, 2023, and charges were framed on February 8, 2024.
In his complaint lodged at Jagner police station on March 1, 2023, the accused's father, Subhash Chand Bindal, stated that he was away in Agra city for business when he was informed by his married daughter in Bengaluru that their mother's phone was not responding.
The father contacted his friend, Bhagwan Dass, who went to the house but found it locked. After entering the house, he discovered the body of Bindal's wife Pushpa Devi, lying in a pool of blood.
He then tried calling his son Shivam alias Shanky, but his phone was switched off.
In his complaint to the police, the father alleged that his son, Shivam, was in the habit of assaulting his mother over demands for money and that on March 1, 2023, he killed her by smashing her head with a heavy object inside the house. The accused, Shivam, absconded after the incident, following which a reward of Rs.20,000 was announced for his arrest. He was eventually apprehended on October 14, 2023, and was also found in possession of illegal arms, leading to an additional case under the Arms Act.
During the trial, 11 witnesses were examined, including the accused's father and uncle, local residents, as well as a doctor and police personnel. On May 16, 2026, the court found the accused, Shivam alias Shanky, guilty and scheduled Monday for the hearing on the quantum of punishment....
