AGRA, Sept. 20 -- An Agra court has sentenced a cable operator to one-and-a-half years' imprisonment and fined him Rs 3,500, 25 years after he screened the Hindi film 'Gadar' on his network in violation of copyright and cinema regulations. The order was passed September 9 by chief judicial magistrate Sharib Ali. The case was registered at Rakabganj police station under provisions of the Copyright Act and the Uttar Pradesh Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1955. According to the prosecution, Braj Mohan showed the movie through a VCD on June 20, 2001, without a licence or copyright permission. The manager of a cinema hall complained to the entertainment tax officer on June 26, 2001. Braj Mohan was summoned, appeared before court and secured bail, after which the case dragged on.htc...
