Lucknow, Jan. 23 -- At least 21 trainee emergency medical technicians (EMTs) of the 108 ambulance service fell ill after consuming dinner that included lentils, rice, potato curry and roti at a private college hostel in the Barawan Kala area of Lucknow on Wednesday night. Around 150 people had taken the meal. Health department officials said as the condition of the trainees deteriorated, 18 were rushed to Balrampur Hospital, while three others were admitted to Thakurganj TB and Joint Hospital. Dr Sarvesh Singh, emergency medical officer on duty at Balrampur Hospital, said the 18 trainees were admitted to the emergency ward. Dr Himanshu Chaturvedi, CMS, Balrampur Hospital, said the condition of all the admitted students was stable and they were under continuous medical observation. At Thakurganj TB and Joint Hospital, CMS Dr SP Singh said three trainees were admitted on Thursday morning. Of them, two were discharged after treatment, while one remained admitted and was stable.
