Meerut, Sept. 15 -- Two main accused in the murder of 22-year-old Nitin Nagar in Hastinapur, Meerut, were arrested following a brief exchange of fire with police near the Jambudweep canal late on Sunday night, even as tension continued in the area following protests over the killing. The arrested accused were identified as Satya Tomar alias Miththu, 19, and Utsav Yadav, 18. Police said the two were riding a motorcycle when they were intercepted during a checking operation near the Jambudweep canal bridge. According to police, the accused opened fire at the police team after being asked to stop. Police retaliated and arrested both men. Meerut SSP BBGTS Murthy said the arrests followed a specific tip-off that led police setting up barricades and conducting checks near the canal. Police have identified Miththu as the alleged main shooter. The investigation has indicated that Nitin may not have been the intended target of the attack. According to police, the assailants had a dispute with Prince, alias Muqaddam, Nitin's friend. Investigators suspect that on September 11, Miththu and his associates came to target Prince. Prince managed to escape during the firing, while Nitin, who was riding behind him, was hit by two bullets in his leg and thigh.Nitin suffered heavy blood loss and died during treatment at a hospital. The killing triggered protests in Hastinapur, with family members and villagers placing Nitin's body on the Bijnor-Meerut highway near Ganeshpur Tiraha and blocking traffic for nearly six hours. The blockade was lifted after Uttar Pradesh minister of state Dinesh Khatik and senior police officers reached the spot and assured the protesters of strict action.Nitin's father Satish named five people, Satya Tomar, Utsav Yadav, Goldy, Rishabh and Shakti, in his complaint, besides an unidentified person. A case was registered against them. With two of the named accused now arrested, police teams are conducting raids to locate remaining accused. htc...
