LUCKNOW, July 20 -- Two chain snatchers were arrested by the Gomti Nagar police after they allegedly pledged a stolen gold chain at a finance company to obtain a loan of Rs.23,700 and divided the money among themselves, officers said on Sunday. "The accused were identified as Akash Kumar alias Rajan Shukla (19), a native of Barabanki currently residing in Gomtinagar, and Amit Kumar Awasthi (26), originally from Shahjahanpur and now living in Khurram Nagar," police said in a statement, adding that another accomplice involved in the crime is absconding. According to police, the incident occurred on July 16 when the accused allegedly pushed 59-year-old Rajkumari from behind in Gomti Nagar, causing her to fall, before snatching her gold chain and fleeing on a black scooter. Following the complaint, a case was registered at the Gomti Nagar police station. Investigators analysed CCTV footage, technical surveillance and local intelligence to identify the suspects. The two were arrested near the Sahara overbridge on July 18. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to pledging the stolen gold chain at a Manappuram Finance branch in Vikas Nagar to obtain a loan of Rs.23,700. Police said the loan amount was credited to the bank account of their absconding accomplice, following which the three shared the money. Police recovered Rs.9,200 in cash-Rs.4,630 from Akash and Rs.4,570 from Amit-which they said was part of the loan amount obtained by pledging the stolen chain. The black scooter (UP32 BD 8161) allegedly used in the crime was also seized. Efforts are underway to arrest the third accused and recover the gold chain, police said....
