Leh, April 19 -- Two Congress leaders, including a former MLA, were released from the Leh district jail on Saturday after spending nearly seven months in detention in connection with the September 2025 violence that left four persons dead and scores injured, officials said. Former J-K member of legislative assembly Deldan Namgyal and LAHDC Leh councillor Smanla Dorje were accorded a traditional welcome by a large number of locals, led by leaders of the Leh Apex Body (LAB), soon after they walked out of prison following the grant of bail by the high court on Friday. LAB, along with the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), has been engaged in dialogue with the central government over demands including statehood for Ladakh and safeguards under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, while consistently pressing for their release following their detention in the aftermath of the September 24 violence in Leh.
