IMPHAL, Aug. 27 -- Security forces arrested 12 alleged militants from different banned outfits in the last 48 hours during operations across Manipur, while arms, ammunition, and other items were also recovered, officials aware of the development said on Wednesday. The arrested individuals were allegedly involved in extortion, kidnapping, and other prejudicial criminal activities, they said. According to officials, two of the 12 were identified as active members of the Socialist Revolutionary Party, Kangleipak (SOREPA); one as a member of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL); six as cadres of the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), including one juvenile; and two as members of the Revolutionary People's Front/ People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), plus one from the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). Two SOREPA cadres were arrested in Imphal East district on Tuesday, while the remaining individuals were arrested from separate locations. "All the militants were arrested in connection with extortion, prejudicial activities including kidnapping and intimidation," a senior police officer told HT, requesting anonymity.
