Shimla/ Dharamshala, July 10 -- A landslide in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur damaged three houses and some orchards, while a 100-foot iron bridge was submerged amid rising river water level after heavy rainfall triggered a flash flood on Thursday, officials said. According to the officials, a landslide occurred nearMaling Nallah on the old Hindustan Tibet road (NH-5) in the Kuppa area, damaging three houses, a cowshed, and some orchards and causing large boulders to block the road for a few hours. As a precautionary measure, the administration has relocated 13 affected individuals to Jeera Farm, said Sangla tehsildar Hardayal Singh, adding that the situation in the Kuppa area is currently normal. The submerging of the 100-foot iron bridge cut off Lippa village from other areas of the Kinnaur district, officials said. A massive surge in the Pejar Nallah within the Lippa panchayat obstructed the flow of the Teti Khad (drain). Consequently, the iron bridge was completely submerged and is now unsafe. Thirteen houses located near the bridge are also at risk. Due to rainfall since Wednesday, water levels in many of the district's rivers and streams have risen significantly above normal. The administration is monitoring the situation and urging people to avoid venturing near water bodies and to refrain from unnecessary travel. Continuous rainfall since morning in Solan has led to rocks falling from a hillside near Kumarhatti on the Kalka-Shimla Highway, resulting in the closure of one lane. Deputy commissioner (DC) Amit Sharma stated that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and that army assistance could be sought if necessary. DC Sharma said that the administration is taking steps to ensure the safety of the bridge . The 13 families at risk will be relocated to safer areas. The public works department (PWD) has been instructed to clear the debris accumulated on the bridge. He added that a significant amount of debris had to be cleared from this khad last year following a flood. "A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently being prepared for the treatment or channelization of the Pejar khad. The Geological Survey of India has conducted a technical assessment, and the DPR preparation-a project expected to cost crores of rupees-is underway", said Sharma. A complete ban has been imposed on mining activities in Himachal till September due to the monsoon, industries minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said on Thursday. He said stringent action will be taken against those violating the ban. "Government is taking a strict stance against illegal miners and has issued directives for stringent action. The state government is continuously taking action against illegal mining, and a total ban on mining activities is currently in effect until September," said Chauhan while talking to media.
