'True progress is when benefits reach poorest'
NAGPUR, Sept. 30 -- True development must focus on the welfare of every citizen, with the most marginalised person at its core, while keeping the gap between the highest and lowest economic strata as narrow as possible, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Tuesday.
"Real development is not measured by statistics, but by whether its benefits reach the poorest and most vulnerable person in society," Bhagwat said.
Addressing a function organised to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya in Yavatmal, around 160 km from Nagpur, he said: "Even if the country progresses, if the benefits fail to reach the last person in the line, we must rethink our model of development."
"The last person in society should be as happy as possible for the country to be happy. This is what is called 'Antyodaya'," he added....
