LUCKNOW, Sept. 19 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has said in an order that if the officers named in a contempt case fail to file an affidavit by October 5 stating their compliance with the May 8 order-which directed authorities not to fill the post of director general of medical education (DGME) without considering the principals of state medical colleges-they will have to appear for further proceedings, including framing of charges. Earlier last month, the court issued contempt notices to four officers, including the chief secretary, for not complying with the May 8 order. On September 16, additional chief secretary, medical education, Amit Ghosh, and the department's secretary, Neha Sharma, appeared before the court. They informed the court that the entire matter of the May 8 order was under consideration and a decision would be taken. They also said a personal affidavit with all the facts would be filed within two weeks. Following this, the court ordered the matter to be listed on October 5. A single bench of Justice Saurabh Lavania passed the order on September 16 on a contempt petition filed by Dr Mukesh Yadav. The petition alleges disobedience of a high court order passed on May 8, 2026. Chief Secretary Shashi Prakash Goyal and three other officials have been named as opposite parties to the case. In an interim order on May 8, the high court had directed the state government not to fill the post of DGME in any other manner without first considering the cases of permanently appointed principals of state medical colleges. A single bench of Justice Karunesh Singh Pawar passed the May 8 order on a separate petition filed by Dr Mukesh Yadav.
