Srinagar, July 30 -- The killing of dozens of protestors in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has sparked widespread condemnation across J&K, with CPI(M) leader and Kulgam legislator MY Tarigami saying that no words could justify the violence. "We share the grief of the people of PoK at this moment of loss and repression," he said on Wednesday. Tarigami demanded an immediate end to the use of force against unarmed protesters, the release of all detainees, unhindered access to food and medical care, and an independent inquiry into the killings. He also appealed to democratic and human rights organizations across the region and internationally to stand in solidarity with the people of PoK. On Tuesday, at least 14 activists of the Joint Awami Action Committee were killed and more than two dozen injured in clashes with law-enforcement personnel during the first phase of elections for the so-called legislative assembly in PoK. Former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah has sought the intervention of the United Nations Human Rights Council. "I have spoken about this many times. I have appealed that the UNHRC should go there and see what their difficulties are. They should try to address those difficulties," Farooq told reporters here.htc...
