Delhi court rejects MP Rashid's interim bail plea
Srinagar, April 25 -- A Delhi court on Friday dismissed an interim bail plea of Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid to meet his ailing father. Rashid had sought interim bail, saying he needed to meet his critically ill father who had been hospitalised and was on a ventilator.
The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) termed the denial as "inhuman and selective justice".
AIP MLA from Langate Sheikh Khursheed alleged that the decision exposes a "disturbing lack of compassion and raises serious questions about the fairness of the system".
In a statement, Sheikh Khursheed said denying a son the chance to see his critically ill father in his final moments is "nothing short of inhuman" and goes against the "basic principles of justice and humanity".
He said: "Denial of interim bail to Er Rashid, even as his father lies on deathbed waiting for the last glimpse of his incarcerated son, is nothing short of inhuman."
He alleged that the issue is not confined to one individual but reflects a broader pattern that demands introspection from institutions responsible for upholding justice. "When compassion is absent in moments that demand humanity the most, it shakes public faith in the system," he said.
Peoples Conference president and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone also made a strong humanitarian appeal in favour of Engineer Rashid, asserting that the latter must be allowed to meet his critically ill father.
In a statement, Lone acknowledged political differences with Rashid but drew a firm line between political contest and human compassion.
"I may have a million disagreements with Engineer Rashid. We fight each other politically. But he deserves to meet his critically ill father. That is his right," he said.
Expressing concern over the reported decision denying such access, Lone did not mince words, terming it "cruel," while cautiously adding that he hoped his remarks would not be construed as contempt of court. htC...
