Darcha-Sarchu road reopened for light vehicles
Shimla, May 14 -- Through the joint efforts of the Lahaul-Spiti district administration and the 70 RCC unit of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the Darcha-Sarchu route has been opened for light motor vehicles (LMVs).
Despite prolonged snowfall and adverse weather conditions, the administration and the BRO worked on a war footing to render the road traffic-worthy.
Deputy commissioner and chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Lahaul-Spiti, Kiran Bhadana stated that the movement of heavy vehicles would also be restored within three days, provided that traffic flow remains smooth.
She noted that this year, rapid progress has been made toward opening both Baralacha and Shinku La-two crucial passes-for traffic, marking a significant achievement for the region.
She said the police department has been directed to ensure effective traffic management and surveillance across the entire route to safeguard travellers' safety and facilitate prompt assistance in case of any emergency.
The DC said that opening the Darcha-Sarchu route would provide a fresh impetus to tourism activities. htc...
