Assets worth Rs.1.6cr of barber involved in drug trade seized
Shimla, Sept. 9 -- Police have seized assets worth Rs 1.64 crore - including land, a two-story shop, vehicles, and funds deposited in bank and post office accounts, linked to the accused who operated a barber shop and his associates in a case involving the recovery of 71 grams of opium in Theog.
The action was taken after police on June 10, this year acting on a tip-off, had raided the barbershop of the accused, Sohan Lal alias Happy, located on Hospital Road in Rahighat, Theog in district Shimla Himachal Pradesh. During the search, police recovered approximately 71 grams of opium from the shop and a case under NDPS Act was registered in police station Theog. Subsequently, the accused was arrested, and an investigation was initiated.
The investigation revealed that the accused had long been involved in the illegal trafficking of opium. He used to supply opium in Theog, Kotkhai, Rohru, and surrounding areas.
Police initiated a financial probe into the accused and his close associates under the NDPS Act. They examined known and legitimate sources of income, bank accounts, properties, and financial transactions.
According to police, the accused runs a barbershop and is the sole earning member of his family. However, a significant discrepancy was found between his income and the assets he had acquired. htc...
