Bathinda, July 2 -- Four Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from Rajasthan were killed and eight others were injured when their Tempo Traveller rammed into a stationary truck on the Bathinda-Dabwali stretch of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Bharatmala National Highway early on Wednesday, police said. The victims, Pankaj Prasad and his wife, Dimple, both 45, and Mahinder Kumar, 50, and his wife, Manisha, 46, were residents of Balotra town in Rajasthan's Barmer district. Manisha and Dimple were sisters. Deputy superintendent of police (Rural) Harvinder Singh Sra said the group, including 11 people, were heading to Amarnath pilgrimage in Jammu, scheduled to begin on July 3. The accident occurred near Jodhpur Romana village on the outskirts of Bathinda town around 5am. The Tempo Traveller driver was among the injured, the police said. "Families of the victims were informed about the mishap in the morning. The truck was parked on the Bharatmala Highway, but the driver was not present on the spot. Teams are working to trace the absconding driver. Efforts are on to ascertain the cause of accident.
