Two swept away while crossing flooded river
Barmer/Balotra, Oct. 5 -- On Saturday afternoon a man and a woman riding a motorcycle were swept away while attempting to cross the flooded Luni river. The incident took place around 11:45 a.m. near the fourth railway crossing in Jasol police station area in the district.
Balotra SDM Ashok Kumar, while confirming the incident said that they were travelling from Balotra towards Jasol when they tried to ride their motorcycle across the river. Due to the strong current, they lost control and were washed away, Kumar said.
Local residents immediately alerted authorities. Within 20 minutes, Civil Defence personnel and local swimmers reached the spot, rescued the two from the river, and rushed them to the district hospital in Balotra but doctors declared them dead.
Upon receiving information administrative and police officials, including SDM Ashok Kumar and DSP Sushil Maan, reached to the site. DSP Maan confirmed that the victims have not yet been identified. Efforts are underway to establish their identity through the motorcycle registration number and other technical means.
On August 28, a jeep carrying six people was swept away at the same crossing. While five bodies were recovered, the body of an eight-month-old child remains missing even a month later....
