Barmer/Jaisalmer, Sept. 30 -- The protest by residents of Lakha village against a private company has entered its eighth consecutive day, with demonstrators continuing their sit-in outside the company gates. The agitation erupted after a local,Veeram Singh, was severely injured on September 19 when he came into contact with a high-tension wire that was laid by the company. He is currently undergoing treatment at MDM Hospital in Jodhpur. The villagers are demanding Rs.1 crore in compensation to support Veeram Singh's family, citing the severity of his injuries and the company's negligence. They are also calling for action against officials responsible for the unsafe work practices. The protest has received political backing. On Sunday night, MLA from Sheo constituency Ravindra Singh Bhati and RLP leader Thansingh Doli joined the villagers at the protest site and spent the night there to show solidarity. Their presence, along with former MLA Ruparam Meghwal, Fatehgarh Panchayat head Janak Singh Bhati, and several other local representatives, sent a strong message supporting the villagers' demands and urged the government to take immediate action. Meanwhile, the political tussle over the issue has intensified as Jaisalmer MLA Chhotu Singh Bhati targeted outside leaders, saying, "First fix your own district, then we will fix ours. Many leaders come, give speeches on the microphone, and leave." During the press conference on Monday, Bhati without naming anyone took a dig at Sheo MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati and former BJP Barmer district president Swaroop Singh Khara, questioning their involvement in local matters in Jaisalmer. Speaking to the media, MLA Bhati reassured locals, saying, "I want to assure you that we are the leaders here. Both of us-the MLAs from Pokhran and Jaisalmer-are wholeheartedly with you." The remarks come at a time when for some time political figures from nearby districts like Barmer are actively participating in incidents across Jaisalmer, including the Basanpeer and Dangri communal episodes, the ongoing Oran-Gochar land protest, and the recent Lakha village protest. Meanwhile in the Lakha village protest, so far, three rounds of talks between the company, administration, and villagers have failed to yield any resolution. Discussions during the latest round on Sunday evening ended without agreement, as the villagers refused to settle until a written assurance of compensation and accountability was provided. Locals allege that the company ignored safety protocols while laying the high-tension wires, leaving them dangerously exposed. This negligence, they say, directly led to Veeram Singh's serious injuries....
