Jaipur, July 26 -- The resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday triggered celebrations among protesting students in Jaipur, with demonstrators describing it as a victory for the youth-led movement against paper leaks and alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. Inspired by the ongoing student protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, students had been gathering at Patrika Gate near Jawahar Circle since Thursday. Although police dispersed the protesters late on Friday night, they regrouped at Shaheed Smarak near the Police Commissionerate on Saturday. News of Pradhan's resignation in the afternoon sparked celebrations at the protest site. Pooja, 23, from Sikar, described the resignation as "a victory for the youth". Sanjeev, a protester from Kekri, said that had the government acted earlier, students would not have faced a lathi-charge and the government would have avoided criticism. Hindustan Times also spoke to the family of a NEET aspirant from Rajasthan's Kotputli-Behror district who recently died by suicide. Her family alleged that she had fallen into despair following the NEET paper leak in May. The student's father said, "Only a child and the family can understand the pain of studying day and night for an examination, only to later learn that the paper was leaked or that questions are being raised over the examination process." He added, "Today, Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation has been accepted, but my daughter cannot return. However, to ensure that no other family suffers the same pain, the examination system must be completely transparent and fair." Meanwhile, Congress leaders highlighted the role of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi's Chhatron Ki Goonj campaign, under which he had consistently targeted the Centre over examination-related issues. Following the resignation, the party converted its previously announced district-wide march demanding Pradhan's resignation into a "victory march" on Saturday evening. Senior Congress leaders also took to social media, crediting Rahul Gandhi for forcing the minister's exit. Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot said the resignation marked "the victory of Rahul Gandhi and the struggle of millions of students" demanding transparency in the country's education system. Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully said Rahul Gandhi's Chhatron Ki Goonj campaign, launched from Kota, was the first to demand Pradhan's resignation. Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra described the resignation as "a victory of students' struggle, justice and truth", saying the government had been forced to bow before sustained protests. He also paid tribute to students who lost their lives amid the paper leak controversy. AICC general secretary Sachin Pilot said the resignation showed that the voices of students and youth had finally been heard. He said accountability should have been fixed much earlier and demanded justice for students whose futures were affected, along with strict action against those responsible for the alleged examination irregularities....
