Petrochemical complex at BS-VI refinery still incomplete: Minister
Barmer, June 30 -- Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposed visit to dedicate the Pachpadra Refinery to the nation on July 4, Barmer-Jaisalmer MP Ummedaram Beniwal on Monday claimed that while the refinery's main unit is ready, the petrochemical complex remains incomplete and may take another two to two-and-a-half years to become fully operational. Addressing the media, Beniwal said the refinery was first inaugurated in 2013 and later re-inaugurated in 2018. He said that although the main refinery unit is now ready, significant work on the petrochemical complex is still pending. The MP also alleged that the project's estimated cost has increased sharply from the initial Rs.36,000 crore to nearly Rs.80,000 crore.
Beniwal also raised concerns over the recent fire incident at the refinery site, terming it a serious and worrying matter. He alleged that the investigation report into the incident has not yet been made public, leaving people unaware of the actual cause of the fire and whether any action was taken against those responsible for negligence.
Demanding transparency, the MP urged authorities to immediately release the investigation report and take strict action against those found guilty. Welcoming the Prime Minister's visit, Beniwal said the occasion should also serve as an opportunity to review promises made earlier and ensure that pending works are completed....
