Jaipur, Feb. 8 -- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into the recovery of over 9,500kg of ammonium nitrate and detonators in Nagaur district of Rajasthan ahead of Republic Day, officials aware of the details said on Saturday. The central agency took over the probe into the case on Friday, said Nagaur superintendent of police (SP) Mridul Kacchwa. "The agency arrived in Nagaur on January 27 to interrogate the prime accused, from whose premises the explosives were seized. As per a direction by the ministry of home affairs (MHA), the NIA on Friday took over the case given the seriousness of the matter. They will now thoroughly probe it," he said. On January 25, police recovered 9,550kg of ammonium nitrate stored in 187 carton boxes, nine carton detonators and several bundles of wick wire from the residence of Suleman Khan (58) in Thanvla area of Nagaur. The accused was arrested under sections 112 (2) (petty organised crime) and 288 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of The Explosives Act, 1884. Following the arrest, police said that the accused supplied explosives to mine owners. However, given the large amount of seizure, police suspected that Khan might be involved in a larger plot. "The accused Suleman Khan also has three cases lodged in his name at Nagaur's Thanvla, Padukallan, and Alwar's Chaupasni. All three cases are under The Explosives Act," Kachhwa said. Officers aware of Khan's interrogation said that he confessed to procuring the explosives from four people and later supplied them to mine owners. The four, identified as Devraj Medtiya, Bharat Kumar, Mahendra Pal Singh -- nursing staffers at Nagaur CHC, and Bansilal Banjara, were arrested on February 4. "All four used to be legal license holders for supplying explosives. However, all of them have used it illegally and purchased explosives more than permitted limits and sold them at a higher rate than the market price," the SP added This includes Devraj who surrendered his license two years ago when he joined Nagaur CHC. "However, he kept supplying explosives illegally. Apart from explosives such as ammonium nitrate, they also used to supply illegal arms," the SP added....
