MP seeks probe into 'graft' by Jaisalmer DC
Barmer/Jaisalmer, Aug. 3 -- Barmer Member of Parliament Ummeda Ram Beniwal on Saturday urged chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to initiate a high-level probe against Jaisalmer district collector Pratap Singh alleging administrative corruption, illegal land dealings, and potential threats to national security.
Beniwal has also urged the chief secretary of the state and senior leaders in the Central government to take immediate action. He alleged that despite serious charges levelled by multiple administrative officers against collector Pratap Singh - including accusations of shielding corruption, favouring corporate interests, and illegally transferring defence ministry land - the state government has remained silent and appeared to protect the officer.
However, when contacted by HT, collector Pratap Singh declined to comment, saying that he was not aware of any such development.
The MP's demand follows allegations by suspended Pokaran tehsildar Vishnu Prakash Charan, who has accused the collector of suppressing corruption cases and targeting whistleblowers. Charan, who was suspended earlier this week, took to social media Thursday night claiming that his suspension was a direct result of exposing illegal land transfers involving defence ministry properties.

"My mistake was catching the theft. The collector is an expert in catching the whistleblower rather than the thief," Charan wrote in his post. He also claimed to have filed a complaint against the collector with the chief secretary, reiterating that his suspension was retaliation for revealing the scam.
Meanwhile Barmer MP Ummedaram Beniwal, expressing strong criticism of the state government, questioned why an officer accused of violating the Ceiling Act, breaching national security protocols, exploiting farmers' land, and illegally transferring sensitive land holdings to private entities was still serving in a district as strategically important as Jaisalmer.
He reminded that former Pokaran sub-divisional magistrate Prabhjot Singh Gill had also accused the collector of irregularities. "When officers within the administration raise questions against a district collector, it signals not an internal dispute but deep-rooted corruption," Beniwal said....
