Modi to flag off tanker fleet at Pachpadra refinery on April 21
Barmer, April 11 -- The Pachpadra-based Rajasthan Refinery is ready for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 21, with trial operations successfully completed and LPG production already started.
Officials aware of the matter said that during the testing phase, the refinery processed around 60,000-65,000 barrels of crude oil daily, sourced from the Cairnn Vedanta's Mangala Processing Terminal (MPT) and Gujarat's Mundra Port. Officials said all operational benchmarks have been achieved.
During a review meeting headed by chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, held to take stock of the PM's visit, Sharma said the refinery will significantly strengthen India's energy security and accelerate Rajasthan's economic growth. Chairing a high-level meeting, he directed officials to ensure comprehensive arrangements for the Prime Minister's visit.
A key highlight of the event will be the flagging off LPG tankers, as the refinery has already commenced commercial LPG production.
Sharma said that during the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public gathering and he will also flag off LPG tankers carrying products produced from the refinery.
Currently, crude oil produced from Barmer oil fields is transported to refineries in Gujarat for processing. With the Pachpadra refinery becoming operational, this dependency will end, enabling local refining and boosting regional industrial capacity. For smooth crude supply to the refinery, a 700-kilometre long pipeline connects Mundra Port to Pachpadra, while an 80-kilometre pipeline links the Mangala Processing Terminal to the refinery, officials added.
Officials said that the refinery is designed to produce around 5 million metric tonnes of petroleum products annually, including petrol and diesel. Out of 13 units, 11 are ready, including 9 refining and 2 petrochemical units, while work on the remaining units is ongoing.
Chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma said the HRRL refinery will produce not only petrol and diesel but also key petrochemical products such as polypropylene, LLDPE (Linear Low-Density Polyethylene), HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene), benzene, toluene, and butadiene, strengthening sectors including transport, pharmaceuticals, paints, and packaging.
He added that the project will boost energy self-reliance and reduce import dependence in the petrochemical sector, and create significant employment and skill development opportunities for youth.
The complex is expected to produce around 2.4 million metric tonnes of petrochemicals annually. At full capacity, it will handle nearly 9 million tonnes of crude and petrochemical output each year, using a mix of locally sourced and imported crude.
The refinery is spread across about 4,400 acres and built at a revised cost of Rs.79,459 crore....
